You put US$3,000 into Meta ads this month and the campaign works. Enquiries double. Your helpdesk AI answers most of them overnight, which is exactly what you bought it for, and then the invoice arrives with a second line nobody budgeted for. That is the shape of Zendesk pricing in 2026: a predictable seat fee of US$55 to US$115 per agent per month on the Suite plans, plus US$1.50 to US$2.00 for every conversation the AI agent resolves beyond a small included allowance (Zendesk pricing page, checked October 2026). The seat fee is what you see on the plan card. The resolution fee is what moves when your marketing works.
This guide lays out the 2026 Suite plans, explains exactly what Zendesk counts as a billable "automated resolution", works through a normal month and an ad-spike month for a two-agent team, and lists the three account settings to check before your next busy month. All prices are in USD, as of October 2026.
How much does Zendesk cost per agent in 2026?
Zendesk costs US$19 to US$115 per agent per month on annual billing, depending on the plan, and US$25 to US$149 if you pay monthly. The top plan, Suite Enterprise with Copilot, is not public: the pricing page sends you to sales (Zendesk, 2026).
Here are the plans listed on Zendesk's main pricing page as of October 2026:
| Plan | Annual billing (per agent/mo) | Monthly billing (per agent/mo) | Included AI resolutions | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $19 | $25 | 5 per agent/mo | Email and ticketing |
| Suite Team | $55 | $69 | 5 per agent/mo | Ticketing, messaging, AI agents, voice |
| Suite Professional | $115 | $149 | 10 per agent/mo | The "Most Popular" plan |
| Suite Enterprise + Copilot | Not public (contact sales) | Not public | Not listed | Sales-led |
Source: zendesk.com/pricing, checked October 2026. Zendesk advertises "20% off annual" next to the billing toggle.
Two things stand out. First, the seat prices have not moved much: Suite Team was US$55 annual and US$69 monthly in Zendesk's own 2023 price-update notice, and it still is (Zendesk, 2023). Second, the cost growth has moved into usage. The seat is stable. The AI meter is not.
The Copilot add-on, which drafts replies and suggests actions for your human agents, is another US$50 per agent per month on annual billing, and it is available on Professional and above (Zendesk, 2026). If you are budgeting for "Zendesk with AI", decide early whether you mean the AI agent that talks to customers, the copilot that helps your staff, or both, because they are priced separately.
If you are a very early company, check the startup programme before you pay anything. The pricing page describes a 6-month trial of the Zendesk Suite for up to 50 agents for qualifying startups, though the site navigation separately advertises "up to 2 years" free, so confirm the terms with Zendesk directly (Zendesk, 2026).
What are Zendesk's AI agent resolution charges?
Every Zendesk plan includes AI agents, but each one comes with only a small allowance of "automated resolutions". After that, each resolved conversation costs US$1.50 if you pre-commit to a volume and US$2.00 if you pay as you go (Zendesk, 2026).
The pricing page's comparison table puts it in one row: "Included automated resolutions (up to 10k per year)", with 5 per agent per month on Support Team and Suite Team and 10 per agent per month on Suite Professional. Below that sit two prices that apply on all three plans: committed automated resolutions at US$1.50 and pay-as-you-go resolutions at US$2.00 (Zendesk, 2026).
To put the allowance in perspective: a three-agent team on Suite Team gets 15 included resolutions a month. If the AI agent resolves 20 conversations a day, the allowance is gone before lunch on day one.
Zendesk's help centre describes the same allowance a different way. Its "Managing resolution allowances" article calls it a dollar pool: US$2 per agent seat per month on Team plans, US$5 on Suite Growth and Professional, and US$10 on Suite Enterprise, with a maximum of US$5,000 a year for all plans. It adds that "Monthly allowances do not carry over" and "Overage is billed monthly, regardless of your subscription terms" (Zendesk Help Center, 2026).
The two descriptions don't line up exactly, and for budgeting it barely matters. Whether your included allowance is 5 resolutions or US$2 of credit per seat, it is a rounding error next to a month of real volume. Plan as though almost every AI resolution is billable. That is the honest way to read Zendesk pricing, and it is how the worked examples below are built.
This model is relatively new. Zendesk moved its AI agents from the older bot and monthly-active-user pricing to automated resolutions on 3 February 2025 (Zendesk Help Center, 2025). The principle, explained in Zendesk's post on outcome-based pricing, is that you pay when the AI does the work. That is fair. It also means the bill tracks your demand, not your headcount.
What counts as an automated resolution in Zendesk?
Since 18 May 2026, only a "Verified resolution" draws on your allowance, which Zendesk defines as a conversation where "The AI agent successfully resolved the interaction", checked by an LLM. Escalations and unverified completions do not count (Zendesk Help Center, 2026).
Zendesk now sorts every AI-handled conversation into one of three tiers:
- Assisted escalation. The AI contributed, then a human finished the job. Not deducted.
- Contained resolution. The AI handled it to the end "without the customer requesting further assistance", but it did not pass verification. Not deducted.
- Verified resolution. The AI resolved it and the LLM check agrees. This is the only tier that draws on your allowance and, past that, your bill.
This is a real improvement on older "the customer went quiet, so we'll charge you" definitions, and Zendesk deserves credit for it. We covered why that distinction matters in containment vs resolution in AI customer service. A contained conversation is not a solved problem, and under the 2026 tiers Zendesk no longer bills you as if it were.
Timing also matters, because a conversation has to end before it can be classified. On email it ends 72 hours after the first message. On messaging it ends by default 2 hours after the first message, which Zendesk support can extend to 72 hours. On voice it ends at hang-up (Zendesk Help Center, 2026). If a customer comes back three hours later on chat with a follow-up, the first conversation may already have been counted.
The practical point: on this model, a better AI costs you more, because more conversations become verified resolutions.
What does Zendesk really cost in a busy month?
For a two-agent team on Suite Team whose AI resolves 180 conversations a month, Zendesk costs roughly US$365 to US$450 a month, and in a month where an ad campaign doubles enquiries it rises to roughly US$725 to US$810. The seat fee is the smallest line on the bill.
Here is the arithmetic, using only prices on Zendesk's pricing page as of October 2026. Assumptions: 2 agents, Suite Team on annual billing, 600 customer conversations in a normal month, and the AI producing a verified resolution on 30% of them (180). We use the pricing page's 5 included resolutions per agent.
| Line | Normal month (600 conversations) | Ad-spike month (1,200 conversations) |
|---|---|---|
| Seats: 2 × $55 | $110 | $110 |
| AI verified resolutions (30%) | 180 | 360 |
| Included: 2 × 5 | −10 | −10 |
| Billable resolutions | 170 | 350 |
| All at $1.50 committed | $255 | $525 |
| All at $2.00 pay-as-you-go | $340 | $700 |
| Committed sized for a normal month (170 × $1.50), extra at $2.00 | $255 | $255 + 180 × $2.00 = $615 |
| Monthly total | $365–$450 | $635–$810 |
The realistic spike-month figure is the bottom row's middle case, about US$725, because most owners size a commitment for a normal month and pay the higher pay-as-you-go price on the surge. Add Copilot for both agents and every column rises by another US$100.
Now scale it up. Take a three-agent team, 2,000 conversations a month, with 40% handled by the AI and every one of those verified: 800 resolutions, 15 included, 785 billable. On Suite Team that is US$165 in seats plus US$1,177.50 to US$1,570 in resolutions, so US$1,342.50 to US$1,735 a month. On Suite Professional the seats are US$345, the included allowance is 30, and the total is about US$1,500 to US$1,885 (arithmetic from Zendesk's pricing page, October 2026). In both cases the AI resolutions cost several times more than the seats.
If you choose a plan by comparing US$55 with US$115, you're comparing the small number. We worked through the same pattern for Intercom in what Intercom Fin's per-resolution pricing really costs, and the real cost of AI agents for a small business shows where usage fees sit in the full budget.
What happens when you go over your Zendesk resolutions?
If you exceed your allowance, Zendesk can either keep the AI running and bill the overage at pay-as-you-go rates, or pause the AI and send customers to human agents. Which one you get depends on a setting in Admin Center (Zendesk Help Center, 2026).
The two options, in Zendesk's words:
- "Maintain functionality and allow overage." The AI keeps serving customers past the limit, and the extra usage is billed at pay-as-you-go rates.
- "Pause functionality and don't allow overage." The AI stops and conversations go to your live agents until more resolutions are available.
Neither option is wrong, but each one costs you something.
- Allow overage. Your customers keep getting instant answers at 11 p.m., and you pay US$2.00 a time for the privilege. For a business that sells a US$500 service, that is cheap. For a business answering "what time do you close?" all day, it adds up.
- Pause. Your bill is capped, but the cap kicks in exactly when demand is highest. If you have no night shift, "send to live agents" at midnight means "send to an inbox nobody reads until morning". The overnight enquiry from your ad spend waits eight hours, and many of those people will have asked a competitor by then.
So the setting is a business decision, not an IT one. Don't leave it on whatever was active when the account was created.
Which Zendesk plan should you choose?
Choose Suite Team if you need ticketing, messaging and an AI agent for a small team, and move to Suite Professional only for the specific features you need, such as Copilot or the larger allowance. Pick the plan for its features. The resolution meter costs the same on both.
A few honest pointers:
- Support Team (US$19) is email and ticketing only. If your customers reach you through web chat or messaging apps, it isn't the right plan.
- Suite Team (US$55) is where most small teams start. It includes AI agents, messaging and telephony.
- Suite Professional (US$115) doubles the included resolutions to 10 per agent. That saves you at most 5 × US$2.00 = US$10 per agent per month. The US$60 price difference has to be justified by other features, not the allowance.
- Enterprise is quote-only. If you're being quoted, ask for the committed resolution rate in writing alongside the seat price.
Zendesk's real strengths are worth stating plainly. It is a mature helpdesk with routing across email, messaging and voice in one place. The AI agents support "80+ languages", and the vendor claims they can "Resolve up to 80%+ of even the most complex service issues" (Zendesk, 2026). Treat that last figure as a vendor claim, not a forecast for your first month. If you have several human agents who live in a ticket queue all day, Zendesk is built for that work.
Customer sentiment is more mixed. Zendesk is rated 1.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 738 reviews, and one September 2026 reviewer summed up the common complaint: "the price is high while value is not good" (Trustpilot, 2026). On Zendesk's own community forum, one customer called 10 included resolutions per agent "insultingly low" (Zendesk Community). Review sites over-sample unhappy customers, so read those as signals, not verdicts.
How does Zendesk pricing compare with Intercom and flat-price tools?
Zendesk, Intercom and most helpdesk AI now bill per seat plus per AI outcome, so cost rises with volume. Flat-price tools charge the same in a slow month and a busy one, which is easier to budget but usually covers a narrower job.
Here is the same normal month (2 agents, 180 AI resolutions) on three pricing models, as of October 2026:
| Model | Example | How it bills | Normal month | Ad-spike month (360 AI resolutions) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seat + per resolution | Zendesk Suite Team, annual | $55/agent + $1.50–$2.00 per verified resolution after allowance | $365–$450 | $635–$810 |
| Seat + per outcome | Intercom Essential, annual | $29/seat + $0.99 per Fin outcome (Intercom, 2026) | $58 + $178.20 = $236.20 | $58 + $356.40 = $414.40 |
| Flat monthly | Omago | US$49–99/mo, no per-resolution fees (pricing) | $49–$99 | $49–$99 |
The table is not a fair fight on features, and it shouldn't be read as one. Zendesk and Intercom are full helpdesks with ticketing, routing, reporting and seats for a support team. Omago is an AI sales agent: it answers enquiries on your website, WhatsApp and Telegram from your own content, qualifies the lead and books the next step. If your problem is a queue of support tickets from existing customers, you need a helpdesk. If your problem is that paid enquiries arrive after hours and nobody answers them, a helpdesk with a per-resolution meter is an expensive way to fix it.
Whatever you choose, remember that WhatsApp carries Meta's own per-message charges no matter which tool sits on top. Our WhatsApp API cost calculator estimates that line separately. If you're comparing helpdesk-style tools in general, our buyer's guide to AI customer service software covers the field, and our round-up of ManyChat pricing in 2026 covers the contact-based model on the social side.
How do you keep a Zendesk AI bill under control?
Set a budget ceiling, size your commitment for a normal month, and decide in advance what the AI should and shouldn't resolve. Most surprise bills come from the defaults, not from the price list.
A practical checklist before your next campaign:
- Check the overage setting in Admin Center. Know whether you're on "allow" or "pause", and choose deliberately.
- Size the commitment from real data. Pull three months of verified resolutions and commit to roughly your normal month at US$1.50. Committing for a spike month means paying for resolutions you won't use, since monthly allowances don't carry over.
- Plan for the spike. If a launch or seasonal campaign will double traffic, budget the extra at US$2.00 each. A doubled month roughly doubles the AI line.
- Watch the verified share, not just the total. A rising verified-resolution count is good news for customers and a higher bill. Track both together so neither surprises you.
- Compare the cost per resolution with the value of the enquiry. US$2.00 to answer a US$1,000 consultation request is excellent value. US$2.00 to answer "are you open on Sunday?" may not be. Keep routine FAQs on your website, where they cost nothing.
If you're also weighing human cover for nights and weekends, our breakdown of answering service cost in 2026 shows how per-minute and per-call pricing compare. The cheapest test of all, though, takes two minutes: paste your website URL into Omago and ask it the question your customers ask at 11 p.m.
Frequently asked questions
How much is Zendesk per month for a small team?
Seats run US$19 to US$115 per agent per month on annual billing, or US$25 to US$149 monthly, as of October 2026 (Zendesk, 2026). A two-agent team on Suite Team pays US$110 a month in seats. Once the AI agent is resolving a few hundred conversations, add roughly US$255 to US$340 in resolution charges, for a total of about US$365 to US$450.
Does Zendesk charge for AI agents?
The AI agent itself is included in every plan, but resolutions beyond the small included allowance are charged: US$1.50 each if committed in advance and US$2.00 each on pay-as-you-go (Zendesk, 2026). Since 18 May 2026, only verified resolutions count. Escalations to a human and unverified completions are free.
What is the difference between Suite Team and Suite Professional?
Suite Team is US$55 per agent per month on annual billing and includes 5 automated resolutions per agent. Suite Professional is US$115 and includes 10, plus access to the Copilot add-on at US$50 per agent (Zendesk, 2026). The extra allowance is worth at most about US$10 per agent, so choose Professional for its features, not its resolutions.
Can I stop Zendesk charging me for overage?
Yes. In Admin Center you can choose "Pause functionality and don't allow overage", which stops the AI at your limit and sends conversations to human agents (Zendesk Help Center, 2026). The trade-off is that the AI goes quiet in your busiest periods, which is when unanswered enquiries cost the most.
Is Zendesk worth it compared with a flat-price AI agent?
It depends on the job. If you run a support team working a ticket queue across email, messaging and voice, Zendesk is built for that, and the resolution charges buy real automation. If you mainly need paid website and WhatsApp enquiries answered and booked after hours, a flat-price AI sales agent at US$49–99 a month costs the same in a spike month as in a quiet one.
