You paid Meta to boost the post, and 400 people commented "PRICE" under it. ManyChat sent every one of them a DM within seconds, and that's what it's good at. The bill at the end of the month is the part people don't understand. ManyChat pricing in 2026 starts at US$0 and climbs with the number of people you actually talk to: Pro costs US$29 a month on annual billing or US$39 month to month, and it includes 2,500 "active contacts" (ManyChat, 2026). Go past that and every extra person costs a few cents. If you add WhatsApp, Meta's own message fees come out of a separate ManyChat Wallet. This guide covers the five plans, what an active contact is, what the bill looks like at 500, 5,000 and 25,000 contacts, what happened to the old US$29 AI add-on, and what the WhatsApp line adds after Meta's 1 October 2026 change.
All prices are in US dollars and were checked as of October 2026.
How much does ManyChat cost in 2026?
ManyChat has five plans in 2026: Free, Essential, Pro, Business and Advanced. They run from US$0 to US$139 a month on annual billing, and each one includes a fixed number of active contacts. Pro is the plan most businesses end up on, because it's the cheapest tier with WhatsApp and AI replies.
ManyChat announced this structure "back in April 2026," replacing the older model that charged for every contact stored in your account (ManyChat, 2026). The pricing page blocks automated readers, so the table below combines ManyChat's own blog with its pricing page as quoted in our research, both as of October 2026.
| Plan | Annual billing (per month) | Monthly billing | Active contacts included | Extra contact (monthly · annual) | AI replies | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 25 | n/a | No | No |
| Essential | $14 | $17 | 250 | $0.10 · $0.08 | No | No |
| Pro | $29 | $39 | 2,500 | $0.05 · $0.038 | Yes | Included |
| Business | $69 | $99 | 7,500 | $0.025 · $0.018 | Yes | Included |
| Advanced | from $139 | not confirmed | 25,000 | custom | Yes | Included |
Sources: Pro price, overage rates and the AI note from ManyChat's pricing blog (2026); Essential at "$14 or $17/month" with 250 active contacts and Free at 25 active contacts from ManyChat's chatbot pricing guide (2026); Business and Advanced figures from manychat.com/pricing, October 2026.
Three details are easy to miss:
- Annual billing saves "up to 30%", according to the pricing page (ManyChat, 2026). On Pro the gap is US$10 a month, or US$120 a year.
- Prices depend on your billing country. The pricing page says the price "is determined by the user's billing country," so readers in Singapore or Hong Kong may see different numbers from the US list above.
- Advanced is quoted two ways. The pricing page shows Advanced "from $139/mo" on annual billing, while ManyChat's own blog describes Advanced overage as custom. Treat anything above 25,000 contacts as a conversation with sales.
The Free plan is a real plan, not a trial. It lets you "run up to four live automations for up to 25 active contacts per month" (ManyChat, 2026).
What is an "active contact" in ManyChat pricing?
An active contact is anyone who interacts with your account through ManyChat during the current billing month. ManyChat's wording is "a person who interacts with you through Manychat during your current billing month" (ManyChat, 2026). Someone who messages you ten times in October counts once. The count resets every billing cycle, and people who stay quiet sit in your contact list without counting.
That's a real improvement on the old model. Before 2026, ManyChat priced Pro by every contact you'd ever collected, so a big list of people who'd gone quiet years ago kept pushing your bill up.
The catch is in the word "interacts." Reacting to a story, replying to a comment trigger or tapping a button can make someone active for the month. One Trustpilot reviewer put it bluntly: "Even someone reacting to a story counts as a contact" (Tim, 1 star, Trustpilot, 22 Sep 2026). If you run comment-to-DM giveaways, your active count will spike in exactly the months you spend the most on ads.
There's a second way to think about it. ManyChat bills you for reach, not for results. A person who comments "PRICE," gets the DM and never replies still counts as an active contact, so you pay for everyone your post touched, not only the people who wanted to talk.
What does ManyChat cost as your contacts grow?
ManyChat stays cheap up to 2,500 active contacts and then rises in steps. At 5,000 you move to Business; at 25,000 you're on Advanced. The table below takes the cheapest plan at each level, using ManyChat's included contacts and overage rates. The arithmetic is ours, as of October 2026.
| Active contacts per month | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | What decides it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $39 (Pro) | $29 (Pro) | Essential + 250 extra would be $42 monthly or $34 annual, so Pro wins |
| 2,500 | $39 (Pro) | $29 (Pro) | Pro's included limit |
| 5,000 | $99 (Business) | $69 (Business) | Pro + 2,500 extra would be $164 monthly or $124 annual |
| 10,000 | $161.50 (Business + 2,500 × $0.025) | $114 (Business + 2,500 × $0.018) | Business overage |
| 25,000 | Advanced (monthly price not confirmed) | from $139 (Advanced) | Business + 17,500 extra would be $536.50 monthly or $384 annual |
Two patterns stand out.
Overage on the plan you're on is the expensive mistake. If you sit on Pro and a campaign pushes you to 5,000 active contacts, you pay US$164 on monthly billing when Business would have cost US$99. Overage is billed automatically, so the overage happens without anyone deciding it. Your automations keep running; you just pay for each extra contact.
The per-contact cost falls fast with volume. On Pro, an extra contact costs US$0.05 monthly; on Business, US$0.025; and the included contacts on Advanced work out to well under a cent each.
If your volume is in the hundreds a month, which is common for a clinic, a tutoring centre or an advisory firm running steady ads, you'll be on Pro and the ladder barely matters. Your real cost questions are the AI and WhatsApp lines below.
Is ManyChat AI free, or is it still a $29 add-on?
On the new plans, AI replies are included from Pro upward at no extra cost. ManyChat's blog says "AI Replies are included at no extra cost" and that AI is part of Pro, not a separate US$29 monthly add-on (ManyChat, 2026). The same post warns that older help-centre articles may still describe the add-on.
That's why so many pricing articles you'll find in search are wrong. Before the 2026 change, ManyChat Pro started at US$15 for 500 contacts and the "Manychat AI" add-on cost US$29 a month on top. According to ManyChat's community forum, accounts that haven't moved to the new pricing can still be on the old plan, with the AI add-on billed separately (ManyChat Community, 2026). If you see "Pro from $15" on your account, you're on the legacy model. If you're on a legacy plan with the add-on, compare it with Pro on the new pricing.
What does "AI" mean here? ManyChat's AI features write replies to DMs and comments, help you build flows and recognise what someone is asking. Whether you need that depends on what your DMs look like. "Where do I get the link?" is an automation job. "Am I eligible, how much is it, can I come on Saturday?" is a sales conversation. We covered that split in AI agent vs live chat vs chatbot.
Does ManyChat charge for WhatsApp messages?
ManyChat doesn't add its own per-message charge, but Meta does, and from 1 October 2026 that includes most of your replies. You need Pro or higher to connect WhatsApp, and Meta's fees are paid from your ManyChat Wallet on top of the plan price. ManyChat says "applicable messaging charges are deducted through your Manychat Wallet" and that it "does not add a markup to Meta's messaging rates" (ManyChat, 2026).
Here's what changed and when:
- 1 July 2025: Meta moved WhatsApp to per-message billing. "Effective July 1, 2025, Meta charges on a per-message basis" (Meta for Developers, 2026). Template messages (marketing, utility, authentication) are billed when delivered.
- 1 July 2026: Hong Kong and Singapore got their own rate markets with "higher utility and authentication rates" (Meta for Developers, 2026).
- 1 October 2026: service messages (your free-form replies while the customer's 24-hour window is open) stopped being unlimited and free. "The first 1,000 service messages per WhatsApp business phone number, per calendar month, are free"; billing starts at message 1,001 (ManyChat, 2026). Utility templates sent inside the window also became billable again, with no free allowance.
ManyChat's WhatsApp pricing guide (updated 7 October 2026) lists the North America service rate at US$0.0034 per message after the free 1,000, and a North America marketing template at US$0.0287. It also confirms that Meta has paused marketing templates to US phone numbers since 1 April 2025. If your customers are in Hong Kong or Singapore, the rates are different. The WhatsApp Business API pricing by country post has the market-by-market breakdown, and our WhatsApp API cost calculator works out a monthly figure from your own volumes.
Two practical notes. First, these are Meta's charges, not ManyChat's. You'd pay them on any tool that runs on the WhatsApp Business Platform, so they aren't a reason to pick or avoid ManyChat. Second, the Wallet is a prepaid balance. If it runs dry, billable messages stop going out, so set a top-up rule before a campaign, not after it.
If you're also thinking about putting AI on WhatsApp, read Meta's rules first. Meta sets limits on which kinds of AI assistant can run on the Business Platform, and the 2026 Meta WhatsApp AI policy explainer has the detail.
What does ManyChat really cost in a normal month?
For a business with about 3,000 contacts across Instagram and WhatsApp and 1,500 conversations a month, ManyChat costs roughly US$39–95 a month on monthly billing, or US$29–79 on annual billing, once Meta's WhatsApp fees are included. Here's the arithmetic, using the plan prices above and the North America WhatsApp rates as of October 2026.
Step 1: the plan. If the 1,500 conversations come from about 1,500 different people, that's 1,500 active contacts, inside Pro's 2,500. You pay US$39 monthly or US$29 a month annually.
Step 2: the bad month. If all 3,000 contacts become active (a giveaway, a viral reel, a sale), you're 500 over. That's US$39 + 500 × US$0.05 = US$64 monthly, or US$29 + 500 × US$0.038 = US$48 annually. Business (US$99 or US$69) is still more expensive at this size, so stay on Pro.
Step 3: WhatsApp replies. Suppose all 1,500 conversations run on WhatsApp with four replies each. That's 6,000 service messages, minus 1,000 free, so 5,000 × US$0.0034 = US$17.
Step 4: follow-ups. If you send 500 marketing template follow-ups to customers outside the US at US$0.0287, that's US$14.35. (US numbers can't currently receive marketing templates.)
| Line | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) |
|---|---|---|
| Pro plan, normal month | $39 | $29 |
| Pro plan, all 3,000 active | $64 | $48 |
| WhatsApp service replies | $0–17 | $0–17 |
| WhatsApp marketing templates | $0–14.35 | $0–14.35 |
| Total range | $39–95.35 | $29–79.35 |
That's before tax and any separate seat or inbox charges. The bill moves with what your audience does, so the month you spend most on ads is the month it jumps.
Compare that with per-resolution AI pricing. On Intercom's Fin, every conversation the AI closes costs US$0.99, even when the customer simply goes quiet, as we showed in our Intercom Fin pricing breakdown. Zendesk's AI agents bill per automated resolution too; Zendesk pricing 2026 runs the same busy-month test. Against those, ManyChat's per-contact model is mild.
Is ManyChat worth it, or do you need a different kind of tool?
ManyChat is worth it if your growth runs on Instagram, TikTok or Messenger engagement and you want automated DMs at scale. If your enquiries are buyers asking detailed questions on your website or WhatsApp, a tool built to answer and qualify may fit better.
Start with what ManyChat does well. Its comment-to-DM automation is widely praised, even by unhappy customers: one 3-star reviewer called "the Comment to DM tool" "great" (Trustpilot, 28 Sep 2026). The Free and Essential plans let you test before you pay much. And the 2026 change to active contacts, with AI included from Pro, made it cheaper for most accounts.
The complaints are mostly about cost and billing surprises. ManyChat holds a 2.1 out of 5 TrustScore from 306 reviews (Trustpilot, 2026), with comments like "Loved the service. However expensive" (Team WordBite, 2 stars, 10 Sep 2026). Unhappy customers post more often, so read the score with care, but the theme is consistent: people who don't watch their active-contact count get surprised.
Here's a simple way to decide:
| If your enquiries look like... | ManyChat fits | A website + WhatsApp AI sales agent fits |
|---|---|---|
| "Comment WORD for the link" campaigns | Yes, it's the core product | No, wrong tool |
| Thousands of DMs a month, mostly the same three questions | Yes | Maybe |
| Instagram is your main sales channel | Yes | Partly |
| Buyers asking price, eligibility and availability at 11 p.m. | Partly, with flows you build and maintain | Yes |
| Leads arriving from Google Ads to your website | No, it doesn't live on your site | Yes |
| You need a fixed monthly cost you can plan around | Partly, it moves with active contacts | Yes |
If you're in the right-hand column, that's where Omago sits: an AI sales agent that learns your website and answers, qualifies and books on your site, WhatsApp and Telegram, for a flat US$49–99 a month with no per-contact or per-resolution fees (Omago pricing). It doesn't do Instagram comment automation, so if that's your engine, keep ManyChat. Our ManyChat alternative comparison lays out the differences feature by feature, and the best WhatsApp AI chatbots for small business roundup covers the wider field.
How do you keep your ManyChat bill predictable?
Watch your active-contact count weekly, choose the plan that fits your heaviest month, and set a WhatsApp Wallet rule before every campaign. Four habits cover most of it:
- Pick the plan for your peak, not your average. Overage on Pro costs more than Business above 3,700 active contacts on monthly billing (US$39 + 1,200 × US$0.05 = US$99). If you hit that every launch, upgrade before the launch.
- Go annual once the numbers are stable. Annual billing saves "up to 30%" (ManyChat, 2026). Don't lock in during your first month, while you still don't know your active count.
- Narrow your triggers. Story reactions and broad keyword triggers create active contacts who were never going to buy. Tight triggers keep the count close to real interest.
- Use the 1,000 free WhatsApp service messages. They reset each calendar month per number, and unused ones don't carry over (ManyChat Community, 2026). If you run several numbers, the allowance applies to each one.
If you want to see what an agent built for buyer questions does with your own business, paste your website URL into Omago and ask it the question your customers ask at 11 p.m.
Frequently asked questions
How much is ManyChat Pro in 2026?
ManyChat Pro costs US$29 a month on annual billing or US$39 on monthly billing, with 2,500 active contacts included (ManyChat, 2026). Each extra contact costs US$0.05 monthly or US$0.038 annually. Pro is the cheapest plan with WhatsApp and AI replies included. Prices are set by your billing country, so non-US accounts may see different figures.
Is ManyChat free?
Yes, there's a free plan, but it's small: up to four live automations for 25 active contacts a month, without WhatsApp or AI (ManyChat, 2026). It's good for testing a flow. Any real campaign will push you to Essential (US$14–17) or Pro (US$29–39).
Does ManyChat charge per message on WhatsApp?
ManyChat doesn't, but Meta does, and ManyChat deducts Meta's fees from your Wallet without a markup. Since 1 October 2026, service replies beyond 1,000 free per number per month are charged, and template messages are charged when delivered (ManyChat, 2026). In North America a service message costs US$0.0034, per ManyChat's pricing guide.
Why does my ManyChat account still show Pro from $15?
You're on legacy pricing. Before the 2026 change, Pro started at US$15 for 500 stored contacts, and AI was a US$29 monthly add-on. New accounts are on active-contact pricing with AI included from Pro. Compare both models against your real contact count before you switch.
Is ManyChat good for answering website leads?
ManyChat is built for Instagram, TikTok, Messenger and WhatsApp automation, not for answering visitors on your own website. If your paid traffic lands on your site, you need something that sits there and answers from your content. Our ManyChat alternative comparison shows where each fits.
